In Deponia, the world has degenerated into a vast garbage dump, in which the crotchety Rufus ekes out his sorry existence. From Kuvaq, an improvised village built inside a giant trash heap, to the swimming black market and the dark corners of the elevated planetary railways: The new adventure game from the makers of The Whispered World, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout and A New Beginning is brought to life with detailed hand-painted backgrounds in widescreen format and top-quality cartoon animation. Daedalic Entertainment, once called Lucasarts from Germany by the GameStar magazine, invites the players into a fantastic comedy adventure that revolves around a crazy love story of Rufus and Goal. The twist-filled story takes its off-beat characters all over trash planet Deponia, a unique game world in the style of Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and Matt Groening. The planned handover is only the beginning of a wild chase across Deponia full of twists, turns and mystifying mix-upsâ¦ĭeponia is a fast-paced comedy of errors and one of the most unusual love stories in gaming history. Only a vague hope of making it off Deponia at first, he soon formulates an unscrupulous plan, as he learns that he is a dead ringer for Goalâs upper-class husband.
He decides to bring the unconscious beauty back to her home. When the angelic Goal falls from these privileged spheres down into a neighboring trash heap, Rufus sees his chance. He dreams of a better life in the floating cities of wealth and beauty high above the planet surface.
Ill-tempered and entirely too convinced of his own greatness, he lives at the edge of a small settlement somewhere in the most remote sector of the garbage-covered planet Deponia.

First up is a bit of news from the gaming world. Perhaps the biggest crossover event to hit both the movie and video game crowds was the announcement that Sam Raimi is no longer attached to the World of Warcraft project, but Legendary Entertainment is moving ahead nonetheless. Charles Leavitt ( Blood Diamond) has been brought in to rewrite the original Robert Rodat ( Saving Private Ryan) script. It's safe to say that the writing portion of the adaptation should be squared away, so once the project secures a director we can expect a little more progress.Next, here's a trailer from an indie puzzle game being released this week called Unmechanical. Here's the synopsis followed by the game trailer below (from Unmechanical's site):

This accident kindles a new, brilliant plan: he needs to get Goal back to the floating city of Elysium – and while he's on it, he can also impersonate her sleazy fiance Cletus, who is the spitting image of Rufus for some reason. When Rufus, on one of his attempts to leave Deponia behind, meets Goal, he not only falls madly in love with the beautiful girl from Elysium he also accidentally shoves her right off her comfortable star cruiser and down to the desolate trash-planet.
No surprise that Rufus had enough of that and hatches one ludicrous plan after the other to escape this bleak place.
Life on the trash-planet Deponia is anything but a walk in the park.
